Open Enrollment (Medicare)
Definition
Medicare Open Enrollment, also called the Annual Enrollment Period, runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. During this time you can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan.
More Detail
Changes made during Open Enrollment take effect January 1 of the following year. This is not the same as the Initial Enrollment Period for people new to Medicare. During Open Enrollment you can switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage, switch between Medicare Advantage plans, or change your Part D drug plan.
